Trivia Question❓

In the 19th century, which prominent Michigan politician and future U.S. President owned a farm in Milford Township before becoming the 18th President of the United States?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

Every November 11, Veterans Day pays tribute to the men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

The observance began in 1919 as Armistice Day, marking the end of World War I, and was renamed Veterans Day in 1954 to honor veterans from all conflicts.

Throughout the country, communities come together with parades, ceremonies, and heartfelt gestures recognizing the dedication and sacrifices of local veterans.

This day also calls attention to the unique challenges faced by many veterans upon returning home and highlights the important role of organizations supporting their transition, such as the Wounded Warrior Project.

By joining community events or supporting local veterans’ causes, everyone can help ensure our service members’ courage and commitment are sincerely appreciated and remembered.

Senior discounts at local businesses and restaurants in Oakland County, Metro Detroit, and Ann Arbor can vary widely.

Eligibility ages typically range from 55+ to 65+, and specific deals—like 15% off at Kohl’s on Wednesdays or 10% off at Joann Fabrics—are often set by each store or franchise owner.

Many restaurants, including Denny’s, IHOP, Applebee’s, and local McDonald’s, also offer special pricing for seniors, but discount days and requirements may change by location.

Always ask in advance and carry a valid ID to confirm eligibility when you shop or dine out, as details can shift and many offers are only honored on certain days.

Calling ahead ensures you don’t miss out on savings tailored to local seniors.

Health authorities are warning of a deadly listeria outbreak linked to recalled ready-to-eat pasta products, with six deaths and 27 illnesses reported in 18 states since August 2024.

Recent fatalities include cases in Hawaii and Oregon, while earlier deaths occurred in Illinois, Michigan, Texas, and Utah.

Nearly all affected individuals required hospitalization, with one tragic pregnancy loss among the cases.

The outbreak has been traced to pre-cooked pasta from Nate’s Fine Foods in Roseville, California,

prompting a recall of almost 245,000 pounds of linguine, fettuccine, penne, and other ready-to-eat meals distributed by FreshRealm.

Impacted products were sold at major stores including Walmart, Trader Joe’s, Kroger, and Albertsons, as well as brands such as Sprouts and Home Chef.

Consumers are urged to discard or return recalled products and thoroughly clean surfaces, since listeria thrives in cold environments.

Officials stress ongoing vigilance and urge the public to monitor updates for additional recalls.

The Farmers' Almanac, a cherished resource since 1818, will publish its final print edition in 2026.

Beloved for its long-range weather forecasts, gardening advice, and practical folk wisdom, the publication has served generations of farmers and gardeners.

Editor Sandi Duncan shared heartfelt thanks with readers and partners, reflecting on a proud legacy built over more than two centuries.

Rising financial pressures in today’s changing media environment have forced the decision to end the print run, despite strong reader loyalty and historical significance.

The definitive 2026 edition is now available, while the online site will remain active through December 2025.

As the enduring influence of the Farmers' Almanac comes to a close, its timeless spirit will live on for those passionate about agriculture, gardening, and rural life.

It sounds like a very simple mission statement, but it sums up our entire ideology here at Nashville Detroit...

"Right" goes into everything we do here. We make our food in the Southern Style of simple ingredients, taking the time to build our dishes from scratch, and refusing to let it go out the door unless we're darn sure our families would love to eat it with us.
