Happy Thanksgiving to Everyone - Go Lions |
Trivia Question❓In which township in Michigan can you find the longest stretch of the Huron River, popular for kayaking and fishing? Answer at the bottom of the newsletter |
Thanksgiving in Detroit wouldn’t be the same without the iconic Detroit Lions taking the field, a tradition that dates back to 1934.
When the Lions relocated from Portsmouth and struggled to attract fans in a city loyal to the Tigers, first owner George A. Richards launched the Thanksgiving Day game as a bold publicity move.
He set up a showdown with the defending champion Chicago Bears and secured a live national radio broadcast, selling out the stadium and launching a legacy that would outlast even World War II interruptions.
From Hall of Famers like Earl “Dutch” Clark to Barry Sanders electrifying fans in 1997, Thanksgiving in Detroit became a treasured ritual, no matter the score.
Despite an all-time record of 37 wins, 45 losses, and 2 ties, the Lions’ Thanksgiving Day tradition remains Detroit’s enduring gift to American football. Read More... |
Thanksgiving tables often feature comforting, classic sides that have stood the test of time in local kitchens.
Mashed potatoes and sweet potato casseroles with toasted marshmallows remain beloved crowd-pleasers, while scalloped potatoes add creamy, cheesy indulgence.
Traditional stuffing—whether bread-based or Southern-style cornbread—brings herby, savory warmth.
Soft potato rolls are a sweet, tender complement.
Green bean casserole, crowned with crispy onions, is an all-time favorite.
Creamed onions and broccoli cheese bakes deliver classic comfort, too.
Corn pudding or casserole channels Southern roots with its custardy texture, while glazed squash medleys add seasonal flair.
Homemade cranberry sauce offers tangy freshness, and retro-inspired sides like Jell-O molds or ambrosia salad add nostalgic fun and sweetness to the meal. Read More... |
Clarkston Community Schools enacted a shelter-in-place order Wednesday morning after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity was reported nearby.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office alerted school officials that ICE was searching for two people near Sashabaw Road and Clarkston Road.
All school buildings limited movement, ensuring students and staff stayed safely indoors while classes proceeded.
The precaution was lifted later in the morning once law enforcement completed their search in the area.
Superintendent Shawn Ryan reassured families that the district’s top priority continues to be student and staff safety, emphasizing that such procedures are standard during nearby police activity.
Authorities have not yet located the individuals sought by ICE and urge the public to stay alert and report anything suspicious.
