To all Highland Township residents and local business owners,

The Highland Township Supervisor’s Office has been informed by Lt. Snyder of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office that multiple reports have recently been received involving counterfeit $100 bills. These incidents, reported both in our area and by the Milford Police Department, typically involve individuals using counterfeit bills to make small purchases in order to receive genuine currency as change.

We strongly encourage all businesses and employees to be cautious when handling large denomination bills, particularly $100 notes.

If you encounter a suspicious bill:
-Do not attempt to confront the individual.
-Try to retain the bill if it can be done safely.
-Contact law enforcement immediately.

Lt. Snyder and the Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate these reports and will share additional information as it becomes available.
