Macomb County Man Claims Record $32.91 Million Lotto 47 Jackpot |
Longtime player wins big with decades-old numbers |
A 73-year-old man from Macomb County has secured a record-breaking $32.91 million Lotto 47 jackpot, marking the largest prize in the game's history.
The fortunate player, who has chosen to remain anonymous, matched all six numbers—02, 03, 12, 15, 16, and 33—in the December 13, 2025 drawing.
He purchased the winning ticket at Wild Bill's Tobacco, located at 46518 Gratiot Avenue in Chesterfield Township, approximately 35 miles north of Detroit.
Reflecting on his win, the man shared, "I have been playing Lotto 47 for 20 years and I've always played the same sets of numbers."
Upon checking his ticket, he initially thought he had won a smaller prize.
"When I checked my ticket, I saw right away I matched three numbers and thought: 'At least I got $5 back.' When I saw I matched the rest of the numbers, I rubbed my eyes and checked my ticket again because I couldn't believe what I was seeing!"
After confirming his win, he contacted his children, who were skeptical until they saw the ticket themselves.
"We were so excited! You never expect to win a prize like this, so it still hasn't fully sunk in."
The winner opted for a one-time lump sum payment of approximately $22.8 million.
He plans to treat himself to a new pair of shoes, purchase a new car, and share the remaining winnings with his family.
"Honestly, the first thing on my list is just treating myself to a new pair of shoes," he said, laughing.
"I also plan to share some of my winnings with my family and get a new car."
This $32.91 million jackpot surpasses the previous record set in November 2020, when two players split a $32.3 million prize.
Those winning tickets were purchased in Ferndale and Lake Odessa.
Lotto 47 drawings occur every Wednesday and Saturday at 7:29 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased at retailers or online until 7:08 p.m. on the day of the drawing.
Each play costs $1, with options to add Double Play and EZMatch for additional chances to win.
