Trivia Question❓

In which township in Michigan can you find the annual Milford Memories festival, featuring live music, arts and crafts, and a car show?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

Charlie’s Still on Main has been named the 2025 Business of the Year by the Huron Valley Chamber.

Owners Charlie and Tracie Berry have built a welcoming spot in the community, famous for genuine Southern hospitality and neighborly charm.

The Main Street bar has earned national attention, repeatedly honored by Buffalo Trace Distillery as one of America’s Best Bourbon Bars.

Bourbon enthusiasts say it rivals even Kentucky’s top establishments, making it a true destination for locals and visitors.

Community involvement is at the heart of Charlie’s, hosting the BenjaMen of Huron Valley charity events each quarter and helping raise over $235,000 for local groups.

With unwavering support for Huron Valley, Charlie’s Still on Main is a source of pride — and the perfect place to toast local success.

Easy Baked Apples

This recipe is simple to adjust based on what you have in your pantry.

Ingredients

  • 2-4 medium-sized apples (good baking varieties are Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Gala)

  • 2-4 tablespoons of brown sugar (1 tablespoon per apple)

  • 1-2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon (about teaspoon per apple)

  • 2 tablespoons of butter (about tablespoon per apple), cut into small pieces

  • A pinch of nutmeg (optional)

  • cup of hot water (to pour into the baking dish)

Equipment

  • Baking dish (small enough to fit your apples snugly)

  • Small spoon or melon baller

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Set your oven to (375).

  1. Prep the Apples: Wash the apples. Using a small spoon or a melon baller, carefully core the apples, removing the seeds and the tough central core. Do not cut all the way through the bottom—you want to create a little cup for the filling.

  2. Mix the Filling: In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg (if using) together.

  3. Fill the Apples: Place the cored apples in the baking dish. Spoon the sugar and spice mixture into the center of each apple.

  4. Add Butter: Place a small piece of butter right on top of the sugar mixture in the center of each apple.

  5. Add Water: Pour about inch of hot water into the bottom of the baking dish. This creates steam, which helps the apples bake without drying out.

  6. Bake: Bake for 30 to 45 minutes. The time will depend on the size of your apples. They are done when the skin is slightly wrinkled and a knife can easily slide into the flesh.

  7. Serve: Let them cool for a few minutes. Spoon some of the sauce from the bottom of the pan over the top of the apples. They are delicious served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream!
