Milford’s Central Park has been named a finalist for the prestigious Michigan Municipal League Community Excellence Award, reflecting the village’s dedication to vibrant, inclusive public spaces.

 

This year, recognition centers on the park’s $3.9 million transformation, which has captivated attention statewide for its accessibility and thoughtful design.

 

The renovated park now features a scenic riverfront boardwalk along the Huron River, including a cantilevered viewing platform for sweeping water views.

 

Visitors enjoy all-ages swings, deck chairs, and a fully accessible pathway that loops the park.

 

A centerpiece pavilion, inspired by the historic Art Deco Ford Powerhouse, hosts community gatherings year-round, complete with a cozy fireplace and Adirondack chairs.

 

Winter brings a popular ice-skating rink beneath twinkling string lights, a vision brought forward by Milford’s Public Works team.

 

Improvements also address sustainability, featuring upgraded drainage, lush gardens, and an added 150 trees.

 

The winner will be revealed in September at the MML Conference in Grand Rapids, as Milford celebrates its revitalized park’s unifying role in the community.

The Star of Life honors, administered by the American Ambulance Association, celebrate EMTs, paramedics, 911 call-takers, dispatchers, and support staff for outstanding professionalism and exceptional dedication to patient care.

 

This year’s HVA honorees include Paramedics James Desentz and Tim Driver, EMT Nathan Cagna, 9-1-1 Calltaker Sophia Dangerfield, and Emergency Dispatcher Sam Sukel.

 

Desentz is noted for his clinical excellence and mentorship, while Driver is recognized for his leadership and commitment to training emerging EMS professionals.

 

All recipients were recognized at the State Capitol by Angela Madden of the Michigan Association of Ambulance Services, underscoring EMS professionals’ vital impact on local communities.
